Harlem Jazz Series – The Freedom Art Quartet (F.A.Q.) ft. Lloyd Haber

The Freedom Art Quartet (F.A.Q.) is a melodic exploration in improvised music. Formed in New York City in 1991 by Lloyd Haber and Omar Kabir, the group’s diverse ethnic and compositional structure is a breath of fresh air needed to represent today’s music scene. “Our purpose is to explore and create in depth, the limitless dimensions of the art form.” The F.A.Q. has performed in various clubs, art galleries, and colleges at home and abroad. Festivals include the Heineken Jazz Festival, the Fire Wall festival, and the UVA Jazz Festival. Their debut recording “Spirits Awake” was met with positive reviews around the world. The Freedom Art Quartet was selected to appear on “NYC Disk Makers Best of the unsigned Bands” Compilation CD. Their music also appeared in the independent film from New Line Cinema, “Happenstance.” Throughout the years, many innovative artists have played within the core group including Ornette Coleman, Fred Hopkins, Ravi Coltrane, J.D. Parren, Abraham Burton, Jaribu Shahid, Brad Jones, Andy McCloud, Roy Campbell, Alex Harding, Jay Collins, and Patience Higgins among others.
